Grower: Tissue Culture Liners

Position Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated, organized, high-character, enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our team in a grower position. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic combined with good production knowledge and people skills. This is a hands-on grower position. Selected individual will be responsible for day-to-day production and care of all plants in section.  This includes watering, fertilization, nutrition, pest and disease monitoring and control, to maintain the overall quality and health of the plants.  This is a permanent, full time position with growth opportunities.

About Us

Agri-Starts, Inc. was established in 1984.  We are a world class plant tissue culture propagator which produces and sells young plants to wholesale growers and farms.  Our products consist of ornamental foliage, edibles, natives, rootstocks, and aquatic young plants.  All plants are created and grown in our state-of-the-art facilities in Apopka and Mt. Dora, Florida.

Essential Functions

Maintain plant health & quality through proper mist, irrigation, fertilization, pest, & fungus control techniques
Keep optimal environmental and hygienic conditions for quality production
Maintain organizational system for all crops in section
Log inventory of crops in section
Monitoring and control of a computerized greenhouse environment
Good communication on all issues that affect yield, quality and order fulfillment
Foster a culture of safety, innovation and continuous quality improvement
Assist in managing inventory & ordering materials used in growing and production
Assist with maintenance and repair of greenhouse facility and equipment
Remain up-to-date on improvements in greenhouse production through regular participation in professional meetings and benchmarking of other operations
Collect and send tissue/media nutritional analysis and pest and disease diagnosis
Continually decreases the level of shrinkage in crops
Supply technical support for customers
Would be responsible for up to 12 weekend duties annually
Additional duties as required

Job Skills

Sound horticultural knowledge
Ability to trouble shoot plant health problems
Must possess physical strength and stamina necessary to perform greenhouse tasks
Excellent communication skills in English
Excellent organizational skills
Posses or ability to obtain a Pesticide applicators license
Must maintain high standards of conduct and professionalism, including appearance
Invests time and effort into doing a good job, and take pride in accomplishments

Experience

Minimum of 2 years greenhouse growing experience is preferred

Desired Skills

Spanish speaking is helpful

Education

College education desired but not required

Travel: Occasional tradeshow or industry event
